WIRELESS ISSUES
NO WIRELESS NETWORK FOUND IN RANGE OF THIS COMPUTER, MAKE SURE THE WIRELESS SWITCH IS TURNED ON (Windows XP)
- Turn on the wireless switch in the laptop
WINDOWS CAN NOT FIND ANY ADDITIONAL WIRELESS NETWORK (Windows Vista & 7)
- Turn on the wireless switch in the laptop
WINDOWS CAN NOT CONFIGURE THE WIRELESS CONNECTION (WindowsXP)
Start Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC)
STEPS:
- Start ->
Run ->
services.msc ->
OK ->
Double click on Wireless Zero Configuration (3rd option from the bottom) ->
Set STARTUP TYPE to AUTOMATIC and SERVICE STATUS to STARTED ->
OK
(and then follow the step listed below to)
- Start ->
Control Panel ->
Network & Internet ->
Network Connections ->
Right click on Wireless Network Connection ->
Properties ->
Wireless Network tab ->
Check “Use windows to configure the wireless network settings” ->
OK
Disable the built-in wireless utility (Dell utility / IntelPRO Set Utility / HP Broadcom Utility)
Else use the built-in wireless utility to connect to wireless network
VALIDATING IDENTITY / WINDOWS WAS UNABLE TO FIND A CERTIFICATE TO LOG YOU ON TO THIS NETWORK (Windows XP)
Disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) in the Router (or) Change security to WPA (TKIP) from WEP (or) Uncheck ‘IEEE 802.1x Authentication’
STEPS:
- CLICK Start ->
GO TO Control Panel ->
THEN CLICK Network & Internet ->
CLICK ON Network Connections ->
Right click on Wireless Network Connection ->
CLICK Properties ->
CLICK THE Wireless Network tab (on top) ->
Highlight your SSID in Preferred Network (towards half way of the page) ->
Properties ->
Authentication tab (2nd tab on top) ->
Uncheck IEEE 802.1x… ->
Association tab ->
Uncheck This key is provided for me automatically (bottom left corner)->
Network Authentication : OPEN, Data Encryption: WEP ->
enter security key in Network key & Confirm Network Key field ->
Ok ->
Ok.
ADDITIONAL LOGON INFORMATION REQUIRED (Windows Vista& 7)
Disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) in the Router (or) Change security to WPA (TKIP) from WEP (or) Add the wireless network manually
STEPS:
- Start ->Control Panel -> Network & Internet -> Network Sharing Center -> Manage Wireless Network-> Add (Green + sign, on top right) -> Manually Create a Network Profile -> enter Network Name -> Select appropriate Security type -> Select appropriate Encryption type -> enter security key in Security Key/Passphrase filed -> click Next -> click Connect to… -> You are now Connected.
ABLE TO SEE THE SSID BUT NOT ASKING FOR THE SECURITY KEY
Remove the preferred network and connect to wireless network again
SETTINGS SAVED ON THE COMPUTER DO NOT MATCH THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (Windows Vista & 7)
Remove the preferred network and connect to wireless network again
WIRELESS ASSOCIATION FAILED DUE TO UNKNOWN REASON
- Changed the wireless mode to “802.11g only”
- Changed the wireless settings
- Change wireless channel to 1 / 6 / 11
- Create new SSID
- Changed security: If WPA change to WEP / If WEP change to Disable
- Disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup
- Restart the router (In Web Interface Utilities -> Restart Router) Update the router’s Firmware
LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY
- Check the Wireless Security Key in Web Interface of the Router
- Remove the preferred networks (Router’s SSID) and connect again with the Correct Security Key
- Disabled Firewall and Internet Security (3rd Party Firewall) in the computer
SSID SHOWS AUTOMATIC (Windows XP)
- Customer will be using WPA wireless security and his computer is not compatible with the same.
- Changed the security to WEP (64bit / 128bit)
- Add the Network manually
ABLE TO SEE THE SSID BUT UNABLE TO CONNECT WITH THE CORRECT KEY
- Remove preferred networks, Scan and Connect again
- Check the wireless security key
- Change the wireless settings (SSID, Wireless Channel & Security)
- Try with Unsecured wireless network
- Update the router’s firmware
ABLE TO SEE THE SSID BUT WHILE CONNECTING IT IS NOT ASKING FOR NETWORK KEY
Removed preferred networks, Scan and Connect again
- In Win XP: Highlight SSID in Preferred Network Column -> Properties -> Uncheck “This key is provided for me automatically” and Enter the Security Key in Network & Confirm Network Key
CONNECTED TO WIRELESS NETWORK but GETTING 169.254.X.X.
- Check the security key
- Check for MAC Address Filtering in router
- Assign static IP Address in the computer
- Update the firmware in the router
UNABLE TO SEE CUSTOMER’s SSID BUT ABLE TO SEE OTHER SSID
Check whether the laptop is within the range of the router
ROUTER:
- Check whether BROADCAST SSID is Enabled/Checked
- WIRELESS MODE should not OFF
- Changed wireless channel and SSID
COMPUTER:
- Remove preferred networks
- Disabled and Enable WLAN
WHILE TRYING TO CONNECT TO WIRELESS NETWORK IT IS ASKING FOR ROUTER’s PIN NUMBER
- Disabled Wi-Fi Protected Setup in Web Interface Else
- Click on “I don't want configure this network now; I just want to connect to”.Else
- Click on “I want to enter the network security key”
WHILE TRYING TO CONNECT TO WIRELESS NETWORK IT IS ASKING TO "PRESS THE CONFIGURATION BUTTON IN THE ROUTER"
- Click on “I can't find the configuration button, I want to enter the network key or passphrase instead” (Or)
- Disabled WPS Hardwired Button in the Web Interface
WIRELESS INTERMITTENT CONNECTION
- Check for interfering devices i.e. Cordless Phone / Microwave Oven/ Bluetooth Devices
- Check the wireless settings {Wireless Channel: 1 / 6 / 11, Protected Mode: On}
- Try with different wireless computer
- Update the firmware
- Restore the router to factory defaults
- Reconfigure the router
- Hard reset for 10seconds and power cycle the router
